Rubber Roof meets Shingles. What do I do?

I'm getting ready to install a rubber roof system over a garage/car port. Naturally, the flat roof ties into the normal pitched roof. To my understanding, the rubber membrane can not touch the asphault (or are they fiberglass) shingles because the shingles will eat the rubber.

Anyway, any suggestions how to meld the two roofing systems together?

I've considered a wide metal flashing, under the last row of shingles, then onto the top of the rubber, but don't know how to attach the metal without puncturing the rubber at that point.

It has been a 16 hour day and I am tired, so I cannot remember the name of the thing, but for practical purpose's it is like a connector that goes on the edge of a rubber roof, so it can be attached to other roofing. We just installed four of them three weeks ago, and now my mind is blank. It is kind of like a band.
Your home improvement store or one of the other roofers on this forum will fill in my blank mind. Good Luck
