Hail damage

How can you tell if a roof has hail damage? Our town was hit hard and all of my neighbors are getting new roofs thanks to their insurance co. Our insurance co. is coming out tomorrow to inspect. I just wanted to know what to look for so the insurance co. doesn't try and deny my claim. Thanks!

First look for dents in any of the metals (ie - lead pipes, power vents, turbins, etc....)
Look to see if the shingles have any small places (about the size of a dime) where the granules are gone and the fiberglass or organic mat is showing. It will most likely look like tiny shreds of glass.
Seeing lots of granules in the gutter won't mean much. All shingles lose granules over their lifetime.

However, just because you don't see any of this doesn't necessarily mean you don't have hail damage. Sometimes hail "bruises" the shingle and hurts it underneath.

If you get turned down, you may want to get a reputable roofer to come look at it. They may go to bat for you and try to get you a settlement.

Good luck.
