Metal roofing

I plan to install metal roofing on the house. Right now there is one layer of 3-tab asphalt with plywood sheathing below that. The metal roofing covers 36 inches and has rib every 9 inches. Should I remove old shingles to get a smooth surface? Metal will be 29 guage and I plan to use roofing screws on the "flat" next to the ribs. How do you seal around vents and chimney when using metal? Thankyou

roof

Need more info info here . Just what kind of metal roof? 29 guage. Thats light. 9" screws on the flat you dont put screws on the flat. The ribs lock it down. Yes take off the shingles and just put a 30 lb felt down under it. If jacks are good use them and work the roof under the bottom and on top of them like it should be. ED
