Lightbulb roofs

I think what you had is what we call ice dams on the roof and this made the water back up some and go under the shingles.Next the frost on the nails. Dont know what you have for vents there in the attic and what you have in the insulation for V/B so the moisture from the home dont get up in the attic. You have to have vents in the overhang of the home and vents also up on the top of the roof so air can get in and out. This will get the moisture out of the attic for you and you wont have frost on the nails ED

If not ice damns it may be frozen condensation. This link will give you mroe info about ice damns: http://www.certainteed.com/pro/roofi...t00001ice.html

Like I said it may be frozen condensation, which is caused by improper ventilation of your attic. Essentially it is too much moisture in your attic unable to escape, it freezes on the under side of the roof deck. When the temprature warms up the melts and drips down and gives the impression of a leak. Reasons for this to happen include kitchen or bathroom vents exhausting into the attic and not out side, like they should. Anoter possible cause is maybe you don't have enough attic exhaust ventilation. You need 1 sq ft of ventilation for every 300 sq ft of attic space.

Condensation is natural. Humans prespire, we shower we cook. All these things puts moisture into the air. This is why we need attic ventilation.
