New Box Roof Vents

I reroofed my kitchen last fall (the kitchen roof is a separate roof off of the house) and decided to add 2 box vents near the top and open up the soffits for ventilation. There was no ridge, so I couldn't add ridge vents. everything was fine until winter.......

I had quite a build up of snow around the box vents, and I had two sizeable puddles in my attic near the vents. There was no trace of leakage around the vents, ie.. stains in the rafters, etc...so I'm assuming it had to have come through the vent screening.

Is there someway to prevent the blowing/melting snow from getting in the vents? Will this be a losing battle? The roof isn't that steep, so I'm wondering if this was a mistake?

Thanks for your help!!

Yes, it is probably a losing battle. If your roof is kind of flat, I probably have put on a pipe type vent, with a wind collar on it. These are made so moisture does not get in. You see them alot on mobile homes. Sorry about your leak. Good Luck
