cutting metal roofing with a piece of wire?

has anyone heard of using a piece of wire to
cut metal roofing? if so, how is it done?
using a backward saw blade works but wakes up
the entire neighborhood.
thank you,

Have tried it but it dont work to good. You can only do it down the length ,and on the thin sheet metal or alum.Wire tied off or some one holds it at one end under the sheet. you get on the other end wire on a small stick. you Stand on the sheet and pull the wire up between your feet. just keep moveing down as you go and roll the wire up on the stick. So forget it.

When we have to cut to length, we put all the sheets there together and cut them all at one time. If to many cut just 5 or so at a time. To cut to with if you cant do it with the tin snips. Get whats called a pipe snips. This way you can cut right up the sheet and it will cut like a 1/8" strip out and you dont have to bend the sheet up out of you way like you do with the tin snips.
We use a power snips thats like the pipe snips for the long cuts. Also have used a torch and abrasives wheels in a saw. Its all in how heavy gauge it is
Hope this helps ED
