Update on best gutter guards

I am considering gutter guards. We have a home built in the 50s with almost no overhang (eaves). We also have a couple of large trees near the house. I looked at the posting recommending the open mesh as the type gutter guard least likely to cause additional problems. Also, we have an extension on the back of the house with a flat roof (rubber).

The posting in 2000 recommended the open mesh. Is that still the best gutter guard option? Thanks
