Tamko or Certainteed shingles

Any comments on how to decide between Tamko Heratage and Certainteed Landmark shingles would be appreciated. I live in Chicago and heard the Tamko is a little thinner but the 50 yr would be more like the certainteed 30 yr. (as far as thickness)
Thanks for the help.

I think the thickness is about the same when comparing 25 year to 25 year, or 30 year to 30 year, etc. Elk would be the exception, but they put granules on the back side of their heavy shingles, and granules dont keep the water out, bitumen does!
My 2cents,

Both shingles are comparable as noted before.
30 year is equal to 30 year, 50 to 50, etc...

Both are well respected companies that take care of their product.

I don't think you lose with either.

Go with the color that you like the best.

I agree both are a good products. I do try to buy Tamko, when I'm buying materials, but it's just geographic loyalty, Tamko is based in my home state.

I'd agree about picking the color you like best, your roof is going to be there a long time!
