cedar shakes

I am wondering if you can put cedar shingles over an existing layer a asphalt shingles without tearing off? Thanks

Cedar shingles are designed to breathe. They are not to be installed on a solid deck or surface. It would cause premature failure.

Check with the Red Cedar Shake Bureau in Washington State. I think the have changes their stance on spaced sheathing under Cedar. Almost all of our here in Park City go over OSB decks.
