leaking roof on mobile home
#1

I have a 10 year old 14 x 60 mobile home. One section of the roof has started to leak down into the house. I contacted the repair service and they wanted to install a rubber roof for $3500. Can I do a repair of just the section of roof that is leaking for now? What suggestions do you have for an efficient but less costly repair of the leaking section? Thanks for your help.

Check the roof, it might be as simple as some fasteners that are loose or that the rubber washer broke off of them. You can also get a 5gal can of roof coating and brush it on. You dont say how big the leak is, but if its minor i would check those 2 things before looking into reroofing it.

beagle,
You don't say if your roof is metal with seams or shingle.
If it's a metal roof you can seal the seams with roof coating but make sure you get the sealer for mobile homes. It's white or silver and lasts a lot longer than regular black sealer.

The roof is shingled, not metal--and the fact that the monsoon season has hit has made it next to impossible to keep from building an ark! Any good, relatively inexpensive solutions to repair a shingled roof? Can I get just the portion that is leaking repaired for now? Thanks for your help. I may be a homeowner, but I am not a fixer so I appreciate being able to come to this forum for advice!

beagle,
If the roof is shingled and leaking you should be able to easily see missing shingles or chimneys and vents with bad flashing.
If shingles are missing you can replace them.
