Roof making noise??
I recently bought a house and have been living here for 4 months. Every time it gets windy the roof makes cracking noises. From what I can see the main header going across the house looks like a 1x8 and the roof comes against that. My question is:
Is that why I hear the cracking noises when it's windy? Should I be concerned???
Thanks in advance for any help.

That's more likely a 2X8. The cracking noise that you hear may be shingles. The next time that it is happening, go up in the attic and see if you can find the noise inside the attic in the rafters or other framing. Reinforce them where necessary. If not, go up on the roof and check the shingles. Tar loose shingles down with black plastic roofing cement under them.
Good Luck!

Mike,
Thanks for the help. The shingles are only 2 yrs old. I will go up in the attic and check it out. Will 2x4's attached to the roof joining the roof where it meets the header be good? That was what i planned on doing to try and support it.
Thanks again for you help
