Ladder on gutter

To access my roof (ranch, low slope), I must lean my ladder against the aluminum gutter, about 18' off the ground (paved drive).

I use a 28' fiberglass Werner extension ladder. With the ladder against the gutter, it does not seem properly stable, i.e. could slip one way or another; even when placed levelly on the ground.

The soffits are about two feet deep, so I can't lean the top of the ladder below the roof line and still access the roof.

And the pitch of the roof is such that those ladder stabilizer gizmos may not work (I could be wrong....it's happened before...).

I'm wondering if ther is a way to stabilize this, I've thought of clamping vice grips or the like on either side of the ladder onto the gutter to keep it from sliding.

Any advice on what to do? Thanks.

Pricey, but looks exactly like what you are looking for. You can probably make one yourself

Wink

If for just like a fast check are look up on the roof. put the ladder center over a spike and ferrule in the gutter. Wont cave in the gutter as bad and you can just tie it off there with small. rope or line. Also if room have layed piece of 2x6 on top of gutter.
