Remove Skylight

Remove Skylight
My sister-in-law just asked me to remove some of her skylights
I have installed them before but never taken any out
Can I remove the old skylights and patch the hole in the sheathing without leaking?
The whole thing is being re-shingled in August so I wouldn't have to worry about the shingles really, just my "patch job"
Any info would be appreciated
Thanks

Any chance you can wait to do the job to closer to the roof replacement? If you have to do it now, you can treat it the same way you would wind damage. Rip up enough of an area to get the tarpaper layered back in over the sheathing patch and patch the shingles. Make sure you seal any shingles you disturb.

Yes, I thought it would be better to do it just before the new roof goes on
I thought the roofers might not get upset that some shingles were already stripped off, and they would roll out some new tarpaper any way
I can imagine getting the tarpaper layered back over the sheathing patch would be crucial to that type of repair, but it sounds like if I time it right, it won't be an issue for me
Thank you very much for the info!

You could do it the day before they come . Put the plywood down and just put some blue tarp over it and up under the top row of shingles. With some hold down wood strips nailed down on the sides.
