Cutout gap for ridge cap vent?

I am having a new roof installed beginning this coming Monday. The roof installer will be installing Certainteed's ShingleVentII (shingle-over) ventilation ridge cap, which is 12" wide. Does anyone know what the specified cutout gap of the roof decking should be? I have heard of gaps anywhere from 1 1/2" to 3" total gap being cut out. The roof construction is "stick framed", not trusses.

Thanks!

That means your going to have a ridge board in the way of the ridge vent. That can b e 1" by. What did the ShingleventII call for . I get it as big as I can.

Yes, I realize a gap will need to be cut on either side of the ridge board. I cannot find any specifications anywhere, including the Certainteed website, concerning what size gaps to cut. That was the purpose of my post...to find out what [gap size] is recommended.

Shingle Vent II is made by Air Vent (www.airvent.com). At the following link:

http://www.airvent.com/professional/...shooting.shtml

under the ridge vent category you will find the answer you are looking for.

From the Air Vent website:
"What size slot do I cut for your ridge vent?
For ridgepole construction, cut a 3/4" slot on each side of the ridgepole. For truss construction, cut a 1.5" slot at the peak of the roof."

Truss or stick construction, they ask for a CLEAR opening of 1.5". Half on eace side of the peak.
