Unhappy help on roof leak

it's raining cats and dogs right now, and I found a leak on the roof, coming from where the ceiling meets the roof.

can I apply the foamy insulation to stop it temporarily?

as for the proper fix, would something like this require tearing the roof or just the flashings.

this is happening on a 2-year old house and during those 2 years, it has never rained like this, or maybe I just didn't notice the leak. What tipped it off was water drops from one of the recessed lighting housing near that spot.

here's a pic:

if this topic is a regular repost, I apoligize in advance for not searching....I'm rushing right now.

The spray foam would just divert the water to the next vulnerable spot. so it may do more harm than good. As for a permanent fix, there appears to be a vertical structural member there going up through the sheathing. Perhaps framing for a dormer or chimney? If this is the case it looks like a poor flashing job to me. Re-flash the area properly and your troubled waters should subside.
