Red face remove slats?

I will replace the present wood shake roof with tile, under the shakes are 1x4 slats. Plywood sheathing will be installed under the tile. Manufacturers say to leave the 1x4 slats on as do the roofers; the plywood is put on over the slats. But on new construction the sheathing and tile are put on without slats. The slats add weight which could be a problem. Also if any slats are rotten they will have to replaced Should I remove the slats.

Don't remove the spaced sheathing (slats). The weight is not enough to matter.
