Wet brick and mortar along roof line

I have a brick home in Virginia. The house has one "hip" roof, the edge of which runs along a brick exterior. Along this edge the shingles run flush into the mortar. I notice that when it rains hard, the mortar appears to soak up water and the bricks below become soaked. At first, I thought the rain gutter was not working properly, but it's fine. Should I seal the edge (where shingles meet mortar) with something? I also notice that the mortar has cracked a little. Thanks

hi
sound like there no flasing along the chimmeny to repel the water.
ther should be step flashing along the chimeny front and side that are set under the shingle with roofing cement and then a wall flashing to flash the chimeny.

check with a roofer to be sure

Thanks, pgtek

I think you're right. Now I need to find a reliable roofer for a small job!
