Timberline shingles

Hi folks,

I am getting my roof redone soon and needs some opinions on shingles. One of the roofers I spoke to said he would use Timberline 30 year fibreglass laminated shingles. The other one said he was going to use Harmony BP glass lam shingles. I spoke to a building material supplier and they informed me that they no longer carried timberline because the company left them high and dry and wouldn't supply them with product and wouldn't honor their warranty. I know that timberline is a florida company and I live in Canada so this could be feasible. Has anyone else experienced this type of problem from timberline. Also Harmony is manufactured in Canada so the warranty might be easier to get. What I'd like to know is has anyone used Timberline and how would they compare to Harmony BP in warranty and wearability.

Thanks in advance
F.O.G.

"Timberline" shingles are made by GAF. They are one of the largest, if not THE largest shingle supplier in the industry.
Each individual distributor will have their own opinion of GAF for different reasons. Some will love them and say that they are the best company in the world, others will have axes to grind for one reason or another.
GAF is very popular. They have been in business a VERY long time and they aren't going anywhere. I would ask around a bit more and get more opinions in your area.

I have never heard of Harmony shingles....and I've been in the roofing industry for over 15 years.
Check them out on the web. See how long they've been around.
You don't want to put shingles on your roof if the company is not going to be around to back them.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info, Harmony shingles are made By Emco and are made in Canada, I don't know if they supply to the states or not. But like you say I'll do a little more research. I do know that Timberline is carried by Convoy Bldg supplies in Canada so I'll talk to them. I also emailed GAF about their warranties and wind ratings so I'll let you know what their reply was.
