Mobile Home Roof

I have 2 old (1964) mobiles and need to put a new roof over the existing structures. They are flat and leak. I want to pitch the new roof. I have limited funds.

My first thought was to mount the roof on to an external support structure (with metal poles or cement columns) but this will be expensive.

The interior wall support system has been reinforced by 2X4's appx. every 4 feet. Would it be possible to place an aluminum truss or rafter system on top, weight wise. I tried to find sites for aluminum trusses but could only find ones used in high rise construction. I did find a few companies that do aluminum roofs (panels but no trusses or rafters) so will be able to get weight info from them.

Any help is appreciated.

mobile home roof

I don't know what kind of codes or regulations you are obliged to follow, but

your most practical solution would probably involve putting in treated 4 by 6

posts around the perimeter of your home which would extend to roof height,

put a double 2 by 8 or better header up there, front and back, which would

support conventional roof trusses. The row of 4 by 6's could also provide

a support for more ''conventional'' exterior framed walls, in the future.

hi
I would check your local building code.
I'm not sure if your mobile home would hold the load.

cheers
