sump pump runs every 10 - 20 seconds

I just moved into a newly built house on March 26, 2005. The builder told me that they hit a spring when digging the foundation. I told them to do whatever necessary to fix the eminent water problem. They had a sump and sump pump installed. Three days after moving in the sump pump they had installed could not keep up with the water so we installed a bigger one (I believe 80 gpm). This sump pump kicks on every 10 -20 seconds and the flow is constant from the exterior footer drains. The interior footer drains run as well. I am going to tap into the exterior drains and trench them out to the field behind the house. Are there any other suggestions that could remedy this problem. I am not mathematically inclined so engineering was not an option for me. Thanks.

Wink

Sounds like the first pump was to small now the new pump is to big.

I am going to tap into the exterior drains and trench them out to the field behind the house.
This is what we do all the time. A full drain out around the home on the footing and one also inside the home along the footing around the home. Both drains should run out and down hill .
