roofing help

I have an older shed that has a leaky roof. I am not sure where to start. Should I be removing the old shingles or lay new shingles on top of the old? Any help would be appreciated.

Take the shingles all off so you can check on all the wood there . Fix any that need be . Then put new felt and shingles down.

So I shouldn't have to redo the whole roof? Just tear the shingles off the part where there is a water leak?

If your roof is old, a complete reroof sounds like a good idea. But have someone diagnose the leak or you might end up with a new roof which has the same leak. It happens thousands of times.

Gutter downspout question

I am looking at a new house and noticed that there is a chain type downspout in the middle of the driveway. It is down between the 2 bay and single bay garage door. Not sure what else they could have done? The house has a rock from and a downspout attached to the rock would not look good. My question is will this chain leading down to the concrete on the driveway be a problem? Will I have a BIG rust spot on the driveway at the bottom eventually? Any ideas on what I could ask them to do to change this?Read More

Have kind of a strange application where I wish to build my own trusses. Have a flat roof and going to put a truss from about 3 foot height down to the height of a 2x4 over a span on 20 feet. Its really my only option on a two storey split level where the truss would start below a couple of windows. I really need to do this to once and for all to solve problems of a flat roof (buckles due to high florida heat). Am putting new shingles on the rest of the house and might as well do this at the same time so I don't have matching problems later. The question: What type of 2x4 lumber should I use? #2 Kiln dried, southern yellow or something else? Looked in some books but can't quite find the answer. ThanksRead More
