Rolled Roof - Small Front Porch

I have a small front porch (not sure I would even call it a porch.) It is probally only 3' x 5' over our front door. The rolled roof that is on there is desparate need of replacing (it is all but gone in a couple of places.) This is something that I would like to take care of myself.

What do I need to do to prep the roof for a new treatment? Do I just scrape off whats left of the roof that is currently on there, and roll out new material? I guess I am a little bit shakey on the details as from what I can tell there isnt much more required than some roofing cement and some roofing material?

Am I on the right track?

Thanks.

No point in doing it yourself unless you locate actuall manufacturer's instructions for the proper installation procedure.

After you decide what kind of material you want to use, get the instructions.

You might look into one of the self-adhering granulated "modified" membrane products, available at one of your local Roof Material Wholesalers....along with instructions.
