Plank to stand on- roofing

Quick question and wondering the answer for a while now...

The brackets that are used to hold a board on a sloped roof where you can stand on while working, are those just nailed right into the roof you just put down? How are those nail holes filled when done? or do you just nail them into the roof when done?

thanks!

roof jacks

If you're using them to shingle, you just shingle right over them, then tap them upward with a hammer and they'll pop off the nails. Then you should carefully lift the shingle so you can hammer the nails flush. When you're installing the jacks, you want to keep in mind that you can't have any nails through the next shingle directly above the roof jack, or when you try to tap it off the nails, the jack will hit the nail above it, refusing to be removed.
