Flashing Correction Request

Hi Again, Here's the flashing problem I'm trying to resolve correctly.

What's the least obtrusive way to fix this? Step flashing was mentioned in the previous message but it's double coverage roofing, so I think the flashing is continuous all the way up and ends abruptly in the area of the closeup. I really appreciate your help. I'm new at siding and limited experience in roofing. If I replace sections of siding, how best to get a clean square cut? Do I slip a piece of flashing under the joiint and caulk in? What caulking is best to use? Thanks very much for the help. PS: This roof and wall will be going away in 2 years- I want to stop water infiltration and restore aesthetics in the interim.

..."if you replace siding"??? IMO, some of the wall structure may need to go as well.

The flashing for the roof area (step-flashing) if it is there; is interlaced with
each shingle and the vertical leg behind the siding. It must transition to the outside of the siding at the base.

All the siding on that area should be removed , from the ground up, so that the underlying damage from YEARS of water infiltration into the wall can be repaired.

Good Luck!
