wooden/asphalt shingles

i have a 22' x 8' roof that i am planning to do in about a week, the roof has both wooden shingle and asphalt on top. there are no present leaks that i can see and i would like to do this myself along with a friend. where can i get info on how to install asphalt shingles?? does the first layer go upside down from what i have heard?? and how do i calculate the square footage???

Most code juristictions will not allow a 3rd layer of roofing. You'll have to tear-off the old roofing material. Installation instructions are both on the mfr's web page and on the back of the shingle bundles.
