Flashing on top of shingles ??

I have a small leak on my roof where it meets the wall of a gable. In the same spot, the roof has a valley where it changes from a 7/12 to a 3/12. Eight years ago, the roof was completely redone (before I bought the house) and it was resheeted and shingled but the quality of the work was very poor, the contractor did not install flashing where it was needed.

My question is this-- can I install the flashing on top of the existing shingles now to stop the leak and then properly fix the problem in 10 or 15 years when the roof needs reshingling again??

LMK what you guys think-- good plan?-- bad plan? -- Suggestions??

Right idea to add flashing...but bad plan.
Flashings must ALWAYS be integrated with the shingles/walls.
On top will just create more headaches.

Wink

You have to use a step flashing as its called and slip them under the roof shingles. Then a counter flashing over them.
