Hot Roof

Iím trying to improve the efficiency of the second story of our house in Georgia. The previous owners renovated about 8 to 10 years ago, building up and out at the back. The roof there is large, has a shallow pitch and is just covered with asfelt. Thereís no attic.

I am thinking of applying a reflective coating which might help it last a bit longer too. I have looked at the Henry Solarflex product 287 product at home Depot. Iím wondering instead if I shouldnít just get a roofer and have them put reflective shingles and maybe install a roof vent along the shallow ridge. The only other venting is on the higher ridge where the new roof meets the old. The roof is in pretty good shape otherwise.

Unfortunately during the renovation they only used R13 insulation as far as I can tell. Is there anyway to add foam or something in addition to the R13

Any advice or recommendations would be great.

Hot Roof

From what you have told us, I would recommand talking with a professional roofer. He will probably have some other ideas for your roof also. Good Luck
