underground downspout drain line

Has anyone done this to their house? I've read a few guides on the 'net on the topic and most suggest using 4" PVC. If you did this or had it done, what did you do with the drain end of the pipes? French drain (i.e. dig a big hole and fill it with rocks then cover it all with dirt), popup vented drain, or just allowed it to go into the street?

My lot is rather hilly so my drain pipes empty out onto the yard and are simply cut flush with the ground. You see the eliptical shaped end of the pipe (because of cutting it at an angle to match the grade). Painting the pipe black or dark green makes it disappear.
