There should be instructions and illustrations on each bundle of shingles that you can follow.

Most laminate or architectual shingles call for starting with a full shingle either on an edge or in the valley, then cut 6 inches off the second shingle, 12 inches off the third shingle and cut the fourth shingle basicly in half. For your fifth shingle start over with a full shingle. This method works good to prevent paterns and is called the four shingle split method. I've laid some shingles that call for every shingle to be run at a 10 inch offset from the bottom of the roof to the top of the roof.

I however preffer to run a 6 inch offset when running up valleys so I never get a half shingle in the valley area.

Find out which shingle you are going to use.
Go to their website and find the product.
Then find the application instructions for that product.
If they are not available, call that manufacturer's tech department and have them send them to you.

Good luck.
