christmas lights on new roof

My kids are demanding that I put christmas lights on our roof this year
(years past I have just put them on the edging with clips). Is there a good way to afix them to the roof, maybe staples? The problem is that the roof (asphalt shingle) is only 3 months old and I in no way want to damage it. thanks in advance.

Couldn't you just use those plastic clips on the edge of the shingle ??

Some stores sell plastic tabs that clip to the light socket and have a flat part that slides under the shingle. This uses the weight and stiffness of the shingle to hold the light in place.
