Cleaning roof?
My house was built in 94 and the sihngles look like will need to be replaced within the next few years.. these are 20 year shingles but ive been told in Texas you normally get about half of what they are rated at.. this true? Is there anyway to clean them without having to hire someone to do it? Also how does this effect the life of the roof?

If the roof looks bad why are you considering cleaning and not replacement?
I'm in Minnesota and see most 25 year shingles lasting 12-15 years. Either shingle curling, discoleration, or hail. Similiar seems to be true in the Chicago area by what other roofers say.
With Texas being so much wamer than Minnesota I could see the shingles there not lasting as long as the shingles in Minnesota. The color of your shingle can depend how long it will last. Typically lighter shingles last longer than darker shingles.
