Get a slate roemoval tool. This cuts the heads off of the fasteners, allowing the slate to be removed and replaced. This is a simple and quick repair.

My father and I are framing our 2nd house and will be getting the roof trusses in the next couple weeks. It doesn't appear that a crane is going to be an option so I'm looking for some good methods on raising the trusses with old fashioned muscle. On the 1st house we built rafters so this will be a new experience for me. Any help would be great. These trusses are 30' wide. I figured I would build some scaffolding so we can easily walk around on top of the walls but other than that how do the pros do it? Also how heavy can I expect these to be?Read More
Hello,
I live in FL and have a roof with a 2in12 pitch. When flashing a roof valley, do I first install an 18 inch mineral roll roofing strip on the bare sheathing, then cover it with felt paper, then apply the metal flashing on top of that?
Also, Ive noticed the metal flashing comes in 10, 14, and 20 inch widths. Which should I use? Do I need to bend the flashing with a metal brake, or can I just unroll it and install it flat?
Finally, Grace makes an underlayment that says you can use it instead of the mineral roll roofing underlayment. Its more expensive and not as thick as the mineral roll roofing. Which would you use?
I want to make sure its waterproofed well due to the heavy rains we have as well as the low pitch.
Thanks in advance for your help.Read More
