Question transitioning between flat roof and pitched

I have a house which has mostly pitched roof and a small flat roof addition at the lower end. The flat roof needs to be replaced.

A roofer has told me that he can pull up some of the asphalt shingles and redo just the flat roof. It seems like this would be very difficult. and hard on the shingles.

I am planning to have torch down installed and I will probably put new asphalt shingles on the rest of the house.

Am I better off using torch down and 20 year shingles and plan on re-roofing every 15 years.

Or would I be better off using torch down and installing 30 or 50 year shingles and try to replace the flat roof every 15 years or so without re-doing the whole house.

Why not do a rubber roof and 30-50 year shingles and be done with everything for life?
