Skylight/Dome Between Rafters

I'm building a tree house/fort for my son. I want to install a dome on the roof. The base of the dome is wider than the space between my rafters. Will I compromise the integrity of the structure (roof) too much if I have to cut one of the rafters to install the dome? The fort is 8 X 8 with a 9-12 pitch. I've spaced the rafters 16" OC. The base of the dome is about 22" in diameter.

Thanks,
William

Dome

When you cut out the rafter, cut an additional 1 1/2 inches at each end of the cut. Install a stringer between the rafters on either side perpendicular to the rafters. Stringer should be about 30 1/2 inches long. Install one of these at each end of the rafter you cut to support the floating ends. Nail through the good rafters into the ends of the stringers. Nail through the stringer into the floating end of the cut rafter. This will transfer support of the cut rafter to the rafters on either side. Good luck. Sounds like a great project.
