New roofing help please ?
I bought a piece of property that has a 28 x 40 building that is 15 years old and the shingles are terrible, looks like they must have went with the 10 year ones when they built is as they are totally falling apart.
I had a contractor come out and give me an estimate and was floored at the price. He told me 2 sections of plywood would need replaced and the tar paper and new 20 year shingles for the 28 x 40 was 6,500.00.
Am I correct in thinking this is way too high for tar paper and shingles and 2 boards.
I know I need a second opinion and estimate, but I had a new roof put on my old house 7 years ago and it was around 2,500 for a home about that size.
Has cost more than doubled since then?
Thank you!
Also, if I would do this myself, recommended type and name of shingles please.

Yeah, too high. Just do it yourself since you're going to pay high $ for roofing labor. You could do that in a long weekend. Find a buddy who's done roofing and pay him to help/give instruction. It's not rocket science, and you'll save alot of cash. If you don't want to labor, buy enough materials to do the job and hire some qualified laborers.
