New a new roof, shingle vs. steel

Our church has gotten to the point where we need a new roof. I need to look up some info. and one of the things we have to compare is should we continue with a shingle roof or should we go with a steel roof?

We have a member who will pay for the job but only if we go with steel. He says that's the way to go these days.

What should we do? Pros and cons of shingles vs. steel.

Thanks.

Your location would probably help the pro's to give you the pro's & con's, iam.

Personally, I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. Will be interested to see what the roofers say.

While waiting you might search "steel vs asphalt shingle roofs"; bound to mbe plenty of reading, just be aware that a lot of them will be somewhat biased toward whatever product they are selling.

I would be concerned with noise from rain during Sunday service with a metal roof.

Our church bldg is over 100 yrs old, with a metal roof. Between the attic space and insulation there isn't much noise from a heavy rain.

My house & shop also have metal roofs. It has to rain very hard to hear the rain inside the house. In my shop which most of has no insulation and no attic, hard rain can be deafening.

Obviously this is a matter that should be brought before the congregation but IMO it would be hard to beat free. While eventually a metal roof will need painting, I believe that the overall costs over the years makes metal a more economical choice.

Steel is better than asphalt.
As long as you have a solid deck, noise will not be a problem.
If you can get a good deal, then I would go steel.
