Properly overhanging the rake

How much should you overhang the rake using asphalt shingles. How much should I overhang the eave. I will be using t-lock or 3-tab. Is 3/8" ok along the rake or should I go more. Thank you.

3/8" should be fine along the rake. Some people let it hang out as much as 1"- I guess they want them to droop when it gets hot so that water will drip. But if you let them hang over too much, high wind can catch them and that isn't good either. I'm happy if I can get everything to overhang 1/2" everywhere consistantly.
