Fascia board

Can I replace the fascia board under my roof without disturbing the shingles above it? It's a lot of work for me to answer this question. I don't know if nails are driven from the top to secure the fascia. I thought I'd query what the standard construction practices are.

I have some rot of the fascia board under the roof valleys, allowing red squirrels to make themselves warm during the winter! There's aluminum siding over the fascia and I need to know what I'm up against before undertaking what would be a big job for myself.

Fascia boards are usually just 1x4's, 1x6's or 1x8's nailed into the rafter tails. Very seldom is any roofing aniled into the top of the fascia. Your fascia is metal covered so that will have to be new also. Now your soffitt may be nailed or attached to your fascia also. So now you have it. Good Luck
