(ar) asphalt shingles

hey don't know till you ask?? but i'm gonna replace my shingles shortly ,the shingles that are on the roof now is 3 tab,but wife likes the other style better,the (ar)asphalt shingles.haven't never laid them down before and was wondering if they lay down same pattern as 3 tab shingles,any info would be appreciated. thanks p.s. what does the (ar) stand for??

I believe the ar stands for arcutechial (bad spelling) shingles. They look lije the shake shingles. Yes they install the same way. Same as always, if you do not tear off the old, they will telegraph their shape through the new in time.

found it on the bundle

the (ar) stands for algae resistant.i'm taking off old shingles and replacing some plywood i know has beem leaking,will these shingles lay like 3 tab,lay a row then center the next row in half so it looks lines are running every other row in sink with one another?? thanks again

No, you lay them different. We always start on the right hand side and lay to the left. But you can start on the other side if you want. You do not have the lines on a diagional like you do with 3 tabs. On the package are very good instructions. Just follow them. These are called dimensional asphalt shingles. Good Luck

In my area they're called "architectural" style shingles. I've also heard them called "profile" shingles.
