Granule loss on 4 year old shingles

My house if 4 years old and noticed today that a noticable amount of granules were in our splash guard. We had a small ice storm yesterday and a good amount of water has been coming down the gutters due to the ice melting. How normal is it to see granule loss on shingles just 4 years old. Can ice cause this?

Some granule loss is normal. Severe storms and hail can remove granules. What brand and what kind of asphalt shingle construction? What warranty? Some have warranties against excessive granule loss. Read the fine print. Warranties typically do not cover Acts of God: hurricanes, hail storms, severe winds, etc.
