Valley roof repair methods question

Hi all,
I'm getting 2 proposals to repair leak originating in the the vicinity of the valley joining an added sunroom and the main house roof, installed about 3 years ago. One contractor proposes removing the aluminum flashing valley plus an inverted-triangular area of shingles bordering both sides of the valley where caulking-sealant was applied to the individual shingles on the horizontal and vertical seam edges in attempt to stop leak. He would then re-shingle the area completely across the valley from the smaller sunroom roof to the main roof -- thus, not having exposed valley or using any type of metal flashing.
Another roofing contractor proposes using basically the same methods in preparation, including using 'Weather Guard Shield' but with metal flashing -- with a preformed 'W' shaped in the center.
Any comments or recommendations on one method over the other.
Thanks,
Gary

These are both acceptable methods. One guy does it one way, the other guy does it another. Both will work just fine. The choice is yours.
