Rippled Shingles

Any idea why a few shingles on my roof have a rippled wavy look to them?

Thanks in advance.

If it's a newly replaced roof, it could be the felt paper underlayment... sometimes big ripples in the felt will show up after the roof is shingled. Sometimes they will lay down when it gets hot... sometimes they won't.

Thanks for the reply.

The roof is approximately 15 years old.

I don't recall seeing this wavy look during the summer so it will be interesting to see what happens when it gets hot.

If the wavy part is 3' long, it's likely the felt. If it's 4 ft long, a sheet of plywood might have popped loose. Can you hop up in the attic and check it out from below? It would indeed be strange for a 15 yr old roof to develop a ripple.

If it is a DIP, then there is likely a leak- a soft spot in the roof that is sagging under its own weight.
