Roofing Flashing

Hello:

Will be having a new roofing shingle job.
Will be GAF 3-Tab style.
The old single layer of shingles will be rmoved first.

Am a bit concerned that the flashing around the all the pipes (exhaust fan, furnace flue, etc.) be done "right".

What should I ask the roofer, specifically in this regard ?

Is there anything I should specifically specify like, perhaps:

- new metal flashing for each vent coming thru ?

- also to be tarred (or RTV Siliconed ?) ?

Or, what items to specify, or to verify ?

Much thanks,
Bob

You should require all new 'pipe' flanges. Its difficult tell you how the flue vents, chimney and sidewalls etc. should be done. Depending on your area you may require ice shields at the bottom and side edges. Your roof valleys should be "w" painted metal valley. Yes, the flanges should be sealed under and on top.
