Shingle stains

I'm looking for advice on removing the stains and residue (from shingle adhesive or shingle decay?) that show up over time on white aluminum drip-edges, before repainting them.

Thanks!

Well I found a solution to this problem myself. It's a house cleaner called Jomax, contains bleach.

Be sure to rinse well! cleaning residues can prevent the paint from adhering well.

If the whole house needs cleaning before repaint, I'll mix a bleach/water solution and spray it on with a pump up garden sprayer and rinse with a pressure washer. TSP is also a good cleaning agent for exterior repaints.

This worked so well I didn't have to repaint the aluminum. Just spray, wait 10 minutes, wipe with a sponge, and rinse. It's just the aluminum drip edge that was the issue.
