Balustrade on metal roof

I need to install a balustrade around the edge of a shallow hip metal roof. The wooden newel posts are hollow and made with 2" lumber. Outside dimensions of the newel posts are 7 x 7".

Can someone tell me the best way to secure the newel posts and still retain integrety of the metal roof?

Here is what I am thinking about doing.

I will attach aluminum angles to the outside of the newel posts at the bottom on all 4 sides to will provide an attachment flange. Then set the post on some kind of gasket and screw through the flange into the roof sheathing using screws with gasketed heads. The wood will be painted, but I will try use the angles to keep the wood above the roof as far as practical.

Any comments?
