Question about kick-out flashing

I have a rear entrance door to my house, and the doorway has a small roof over it. I am re-roofing it and want to put in kick-out flashing to divert water run-off away from the sidewall it abutts. I've looked at tons of pics on the net of kick-out flashing, and I've yet to find a picture or description that explains how they are installed. Somehow the vertical part of the kick-out has to be BEHIND the siding, but the kick-out part that connects to that same vertical piece must be on the OUTSIDE of the siding (to divert the water). I am looking particularly at the Dryflekt diverters (search Google for Dryflekt). Can anyone explain how to install these?

Flashing

The flashing gets installed before the siding.

The flashing goes under the siding, and the front top edge of the flashing has to be notched and folded over to allow the siding to run past it.

Ok, that helps. So I assume the notched part that abuts the siding is caulked with flashing sealant?

Yes, and the siding should be kept about 2" away from the roofing.
