Removing flashing on 2 year old roof
We removed a 50 ft. long metal roof over a patio in our back yard. It was connected to our house and had flashing from under our shingles, lapping over the metal. How would we remove the old flashing properly without tearing up the roof? We do most of the work ourselves around the house, but never have worked with roofing.

Flashing Removal
Use a flat pry bar to gently raise the shingles enough to remove the nails that are holding the flashing.

The starter strip is likely nailed about 5-6" from the roof edge. The first course of shingles is also nailed about 5-6" from the roof edge. The next row of nails you encounter should be 10-11" up from the roof edge. So, provided your flashing sticks under the shingles less than 10", you would only have to remove that first row of nails, plus any nails that hold it to the roof.
As another idea, you could always leave the metal flashing that sticks under the shingles by cutting the front edge of it off with a 4 1/2" grinder and a 1/16" thick metal cutting abrasive blade. That would be a heck of a lot easier than tearing up shingles, pulling nails, etc. and probably only you would know that extra piece of flashing is there. It shouldn't hurt anything by remaining there.
