gutter overflowing - does any protection work?

Our gutter gets overflowed on a regular basis due to a nearby tree.
Are there any gutter protection products that work?

There are various products out that will keep debris out of your gutters. The best I've seen has a curved top with a small space for rain to roll over and into gutter. I have the same problem as you, since I have 3 trees with very small leaves that clog up the gutter. The best thing to do is to keep them cleaned out, or you can go to home depot/hardware store and get the sections of covers that fit over gutter w/holes in them for rain to enter. This may be the best thing, if you only have problems in certain areas. You don't want gutters overflowing, as this usually means they're overflowing all the way up to the flashing--the back side next to the wood and under the shingles--the part you don't see. It will rot out and cause more pricey problems. Alternatively, you may have too few downspouts, or your gutters are too level. There should be a sloping effect approx. halfway between downspouts that channels the water toward closest one.
