Raising a Roof

Interested in buying this fixer upper:

I've got inspectors and contractors stopping by next week but was wondering whether a flat roof like this could be modified without damaging the structural integrity of the home ... the house needs to be gutted completely, Looking to install some cypress tongue and groove siding, make it more modern... I'm interested in adding something like what you see below to the roof, to take care of water isssues, and possibly for solar panels...

I realize I'm going to have to get an architect to help determine the feasability, I was just wondering if it's conceivable to raise the height of a roof, make the walls taller, etc... the house is going to be gutted, it's in terrible shape currently. But there's a lot of potential.

I'm right in thinking a flat roof could pose problems down the road, right?

If you're talking about raising the whole roof on a 1 story house, I would think you'd be best to start with a bulldozer if it's in that bad of shape. I'm sure it's probably possible, but at what cost? How big is the house?

Do you have any other information about the house?
