Need help identifying this item

for the life of me I don't what what these are called so I'm having trouble searching for them...

It's the guards you put on your roof to direct water into the gutter. I had them on an old house that had a pitch that didn't have gutters on it but these things on the roof directed rain water to the gutter so it wouldn't drip down the valley between the pitched area and the guttered area...

I know I might not be using the right terms here...but hopefully someone can help me out...

Basically I need them on my new house as well but don't know what they are called and looking for installation tips as well...
Thanks a bunch...

Most people simply call them "deflectors". You can easily make one yourself with a little sheet metal or aluminum trim coil. They're not much more than a 90 degree angle that has a lip on it so that you can screw it to the top of the gutter.

In twelvepole's link they are called "valley splash guards".

The pic doesn't really look like what I had before...
And the things I'm thinking of don't "attach" to the gutter it just installs on the roof to direct rain water to a gutter..

It was long on one side and had an angle to a smaller side...it did have a lip on it to direct the rain....

Rain deturror...detourer...something like that..?

Thanks for the responses....

I'm guessing that someone must have used a piece of "gutter apron" and turned it upside down to deflect water toward your valley / gutter.
